“એક મા” is a Gujarati poem Written by poet Ankur Heena Hitesh. The poem is a part of the “Matru Devo Bhava” poetry compilation book published under the Shabd Vandana project on account of Maa Parv 2023. Maa Parv 2023 is the longest Mother’s Day event in the World. The poetry is dedicated by Mr. Ankur to his mother Mrs. Heena Sevak on the occasion of Mother’s Day 2023.

એક મા
મેં જોયું
કાળઝાળ તડકામાં,
હાડકે ચામડીની ચાદર ઓઢેલું તન;
દુનિયાથી દાજયેલું પીડાથી ચૂસાયેલું તન.
જેમ નિર્જીવ સમાન સુકેલા વૃક્ષના,
ક્યાંક ખૂણામાં લીલું પાંદડું અંબાય છે;
તે જ રીતે,
આ તન ના ખોળે એક માસૂમ બાળ લંબાય છે.
ક્યારેક હુંકારતો, મારતો,
કે આવી જાય એ વહેણ;
હોઠે લાગે, કંઠે ઉતરે,
ને ઠારે જઠરાગ્નિની તરફેણ.
નથી અનાજ કે નથી પેય,
કે તુજને ખવડાવું.
ફ્ક્ત બચ્યું છે સ્તનમાં રક્ત,
એ હું કેમ તને પીવડાવું!
કશું ના મળતા,
બાળ જોરથી મચડાયો;
જોઈ એની દશા,
મા ને આંખે અશ્રુ જંપલાયો.
અશ્રુમાં લઇ બેબસી,
લાચારીનો સ્વાદ, બાળ સમજી ગયો;
ભૂખથી ભરી પેટ,
એ બાળ પાછો સૂઈ ગયો…
