એક મા
મેં જોયું
કાળઝાળ તડકામાં,
હાડકે ચામડીની ચાદર ઓઢેલું તન;
દુનિયાથી દાજયેલું પીડાથી ચૂસાયેલું તન.
જેમ નિર્જીવ સમાન સુકેલા વૃક્ષના,
ક્યાંક ખૂણામાં લીલું પાંદડું અંબાય છે;
તે જ રીતે,
આ તન ના ખોળે એક માસૂમ બાળ લંબાય છે.
ક્યારેક હુંકારતો, મારતો,
કે આવી જાય એ વહેણ;
હોઠે લાગે, કંઠે ઉતરે,
ને ઠારે જઠરાગ્નિની તરફેણ.
નથી અનાજ કે નથી પેય,
કે તુજને ખવડાવું.
ફ્ક્ત બચ્યું છે સ્તનમાં રક્ત,
એ હું કેમ તને પીવડાવું!
કશું ના મળતા,
બાળ જોરથી મચડાયો;
જોઈ એની દશા,
મા ને આંખે અશ્રુ જંપલાયો.
અશ્રુમાં લઇ બેબસી,
લાચારીનો સ્વાદ, બાળ સમજી ગયો;
ભૂખથી ભરી પેટ,
એ બાળ પાછો સૂઈ ગયો…
